Paper Talk: Man Utd identify surprise £15m Juan Mata replacement

Manchester United are closing in on a move for Russia’s World Cup poster boy, while new Everton boss Marco Silva has earmarked his first signing, according to Friday’s papers.

Manchester United are reportedly closing in on a deal for Russia’s World Cup poster boy Aleksandr Golovin.

Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho was in Innsbruck on Wednesday night, reportedly watching West Ham attacker Marko Arnautovic as Austria beat Russia 1-0 in a friendly.

However, a report in The Sun claims that Mourinho was actually checking out 22-year-old Golovin instead.

The CSKA Moscow midfielder is rated at £15million and is being tipped to replace Juan Mata at Old Trafford, as Mourinho looks to revamp his central midfield area.

Mata is being tipped to move on this summer, along with Anthony Martial and free agent midfielder Marouane Fellaini, leaving Mourinho needing to strengthen his squad.

Shaktar Donetsk’s Brazilian midfielder Fred is expected to complete a £35million switch to Old Trafford but the report states that Mourinho would love to get Golovin on board too.

The Russian superstar impressed when he faced United in their Champions League group last season and his value could rocket if he shines in a home World Cup this summer.
